What needs to be tested for solar cable testing

15, Apr. 2024

Solar cable is not only related to the normal operation of photovoltaic power generation and the transmission of information on the Internet but also closely related to our life. Once a failure occurs, it will have a huge impact on our normal life order. Therefore, the performance test of photovoltaic cable is an important part of the cable quality investigation.

            1. Solar cable performance test

The test includes conductor DC resistance, insulation resistance, finished product withstand voltage test and insulated core withstand voltage. The conductor resistance directly reflects the electrical transmission performance of the cable. It mainly checks the material and cross-sectional area of the conductor. If the material of the conductor is not good or the cross-sectional area of the cable is seriously insufficient, the DC resistance of the conductor will be seriously exceeded. Insulation resistance, finished product withstand voltage test and insulated core withstand voltage test all test the electrical insulation performance of the cable insulation layer and sheath layer. Insulation resistance is to detect the resistance of the insulating material between two conductors. If the resistance is large enough, it can be achieved. Insulation protection.

            2. Solar cable mechanical performance test

The main purpose of the performance test is to inspect the tensile strength and elongation at break of the insulation and sheath plastic materials, including before and after aging, as well as the bending test, bending test, load breaking test, and insulating core tear test of the finished flexible cable. This requires that the materials used for cable insulation and sheathing have sufficient tensile strength are not easy to break, and must also have a certain degree of flexibility.

               3. Performance test of insulation and sheath materials

The tests mainly include thermal weight loss, thermal shock, high-temperature pressure, low-temperature bending, low-temperature tensile, low-temperature impact, flame-retardant properties, etc. These are all tests on the properties of insulation and sheath plastic materials. The flame-retardant properties of cables are very important. The performance test is a non-flame test, that is, the finished cable installed according to the standard is ignited with a special flame for a certain period of time, and the flame is checked after the flame is extinguished by itself. The less the burning part, the better, indicating that it has good flame retardancy and is safer to use.
