Can Tuv dc solar cables use aluminum as a conductor?

16, May. 2024

As long as the parameters such as current and voltage meet the conditions, the use of aluminum solar cables and copper solar cables have the same effect, but there are some things to pay attention to.

      1. Copper-aluminum joints are prone to electrochemical corrosion, and copper-aluminum transition terminals are recommended.

The photovoltaic module, the inverter and the grid-connected switch must be connected by a cable, and the module MC4 connector, the photovoltaic inverter output terminal, and the grid-connected switch terminal are all made of copper core, and the copper and aluminum can be directly connected. When connection is needed, copper-aluminum transition clamps should be used, and copper-aluminum transition joints should be connected again.

At present, the DC PV DC wiring MC4/H4 terminal, there is no copper-aluminum transition terminal, because of the 2.5mm/4mm DC cable from the module to the combiner box or to the string inverter, it is not currently possible to use aluminum Cables, it can be said that photovoltaic cables below 6mm are currently copper cables.

      2. For the same current carrying capacity, aluminum cables are much larger than copper cables, so pay attention to whether the AC output of the inverter has waterproof terminals and whether it can be accommodated.
