Flat pins can be made more cheaply- by stamping from sheet using simple or progressive dies- than round pins, which tend to require a relatively expensive screw-machine turning operation from rod.
But really the main advantage is that whichever you pick, it fits the millions of mating receptacles in the target market.

I would not make a pigtail adapter but simply remove the round connector and solder on a 15 pin D sub.

I would not make a pigtail adapter but simply remove the round connector and solder on a 15 pin D sub.The second cable (for the LS 303 scale) doesn't exist yet....I have to buy it. But if not for the (I assume) unique connector that goes to the read head I could make my own cable with connectors at each end from cable stock.I guess the remaining question is just that...is it possible to buy the cable connector for thesomewhere or is it unique ? Is below the standard scale read head connector ?or is this it ?Obviously the green part is the same on both....but is the surrounding black case the same ?
